South African National Blood Service – A Detailed Overview
The South African National Blood Service provides blood supplies and services to the people of South Africa and is responsible for the collection, processing, and distribution of hemoglobin and plasma products. It is one of the largest blood service providers in the country that was established in 2001 and has its headquarters in Constantia Kloof, Gauteng. Mr. Ravi Reddy is its CEO.
The SANBS has a network of 185 sites including 84 blood banks and donor centers across the country and employs more than 1,600 people. This non-profit organization is working to change the country’s highest rates of HIV/AIDS and provides blood for transfusions and medical research, and also educates the public about blood safety. They also provide a 24-hour emergency service for people who need supplies.
